Student Renters Encouraged to Start Cleaning Now

Students and seasonal renters should plan now to dispose of items that they don't want to transport home for the summer.
At the end of each school year, students often seem caught unaware that all the “stuff” they’ve accumulated over the course of the school year must either be moved to their summer home, thrown away or otherwise disposed of. This often results in piles of garbage and old furniture sitting on curbs in Maryville for several weeks until landlords arrange to have them picked up. Most of the cost for this cleanup comes out of the renters' housing deposits, so it is in renters' interest to start disposing of items throughout this month rather than waiting until finals week.

Here are some suggestions to keep Maryville clean and green:
    If you can’t take it with you… 
      Keep it Out of the Landfill by donating to Big Brothers Big Sisters, St. Joseph Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and The Ministry Center 
        **Step One** 
          CLOTHING, MEDIA & HOUSEHOLD ITEMS—Please take to collection boxes that can be found in the lobby of every residence hall or Big Brothers Big Sisters BLUE Collection Bins that are located in the campus parking lot on 9th street across from the TKE House, Dollar General North, Wal-Mart, Hy-Vee and Sutherlands.

                **Step Two** 
                  FURNITURE: Between Monday, April 28 - Friday, May 2 put these items out at your curb by noon each day to be picked up by St. Joseph Habitat for Humanity ReStore truck: appliances, furniture, desks, bookcases, couches…..

                    Follow these steps to donate your items 
                      **PLEASE ATTACH THE PRINTABLE FLYER TO ITEMS TO BE PICKED UP** 
                        A complete list of items accepted is on back of the printable flyer. 
                          **Step Three** 
                            FOOD: Non Perishable Foods can be taken to the The Ministry Center located at 971 S. Main in Maryville. (Blue roof building north of Jimmy John’s) 660-582-6649.  Collection Boxes are also located at every Northwest Residence Hall and The Station.



                            Acceptable items for Big Brothers Big Sisters donation bins:

                            Clothing: 
                             
                            • Men's, Women's, Children's Clothing, Shoes, Coats,  Gloves, and Hats 
                            • Jewelry, Purses,  Wallets, Fanny Packs, Bags 
                            • Bath Towels, Sheets, Blankets, Pillows, Curtains, Tablecloths 
                            Media: 
                            • Books & Magazines 
                            • Records, Tapes, CDs, VHS,  and DVDs 
                            Household Items: 
                            • Toys, Games, Puzzles,  Stuffed Animals 
                            • Crafts, Candles, Baskets, Pictures/Frames,  Ornaments 
                            • Kitchen Utensils, Dishes, Pots and Pans 
                            • Stereos, CD/DVD Players, Speakers, VCRs 
                            • Small and Large Table Lamps, Floor Lamps, Humidifiers 
                            • Exercise and Sports Equipment 
                            • Bicycles 



                            CURBSIDE DONATIONS: April 28th thru May 2nd

                            • Appliances: Microwaves, Refrigerators (MUST BE CLEAN & IN GOOD WORKING ORDER!)
                            • Bedroom Furniture: Dressers, Headboards, Footboard & Frames.
                            • Desks & Bookcases
                            • Entertainment Centers
                            • Furniture-Indoor & Outdoor
                            • Lawn Tools & Equipment
                            • Lumber: Wood, Metal & Composite
                            • Mirrors, framed only
                            • Shelving
                            • Sofas, Couches, Loveseats, Recliners,
                            • Tables: Dining Room, Kitchen
                            Unacceptable Items:
                            • NO: Mattresses/Box Springs
                            • NO: Computers or Accessories (Monitors, Keyboards, etc.)
                            • NO: Hazardous Materials or Flammable Products
                            • NO: Weapons or Auto Parts
